Made it Through Another Day

by Tammy on December 13, 2017

I made it through my work day. It wasn’t bad, but it was more like kid sitting than teaching today. The sixth grade class I subbed for is an iPad class, which means that most of their school work is done on the iPad. On top of that, the other two sixth grade classes were MAP testing and the teacher is very sick, so she didn’t leave a lot of work for them to do or very good sub plans, for that matter. The only subject I really “taught” was math, and even that was a chore because the kids tried to convince me that the lesson I was teaching was a repeat of the day before. I didn’t buy it, though, because only a few kids seemed to really understand what was going one. For one- two hour stretch we basically sat in an empty class room and they completed their two hours worth of work in less than half an hour. We were all bored after an hour and a half, so I finally relented and let them play UNO. I spent a half an hour reading to them right before lunch and then another half an hour after lunch, which was fun. I read out of two books, one called Appleblossom something or another, which was about possums, and the other was a really good book called A Dog’s Purpose. I really want to read the whole book, so I might buy it and read it when I have some down time. I understand the book was made into a movie, but I’d never heard about it until Ben told me that today.

I am not going to work for the rest of the week unless a job that is too good to pass up comes along. I really need to spend some time writing some papers tomorrow. I read the article I needed to read and have a pretty good idea of what I’m going to write for one of my assignments, so once I get going I’m sure it will go fast. If I could complete the fundamentals class, then I could focus solely on the biostats class, which would be much less stressful than trying to complete both of them at the same time. I always wanted to be a multi-tasker, but I was never very good at it. I suppose I’d better get good, though, since I’ll be taking two doctoral level classes per twelve week session. It’ll be nice to be finished with the course work in a little over a year, but it probably won’t be a fun year. It will make time go fast, though, which will be good this winter.

I am feeling very sleepy tonight. The night before last I got about four hours of sleep and last night I slept really good, but I wasn’t ready to get up when my alarm went off at 6:00am. I think I’m going to call it a night so I can get up bright and early and get going on my assignments. Wish me luck!
