Ups and Downs

So yesterday was an interesting day. Jasper, my green cheek conure, turned five years old. It’s hard to believe that he’s been part of the family that long. I had tea with my friend Heidi and we chatted for four hours. She is the one person in my life who I truly feel comfortable with and can talk to forever. This morning I am going to have tea with my lifelong best friend Michelle. We met when I was eight and we became best friends in ninth grade. We don’t have a lot in common, so we don’t see each other often, but when we get together it’s like time has stood still.

While I was talking to Heidi, my daughter texted me that she was having issues with the snake guy I wrote about two posts ago. After we paid him for the hognose snake, he wouldn’t respond to our emails, so I requested a refund through PayPal. He continued to ignore my requests, so I escalated it to a claim. As soon as I did, he sent April a really nasty email full of threats. He told us if we drop the claim, he would refund our money. I responded with a very thorough explanation of why we filed the claim and told him that if he refunded our money, I’d be happy to drop the claim. Just let us know how you want us to proceed, I said. Ten days later, after the window to respond via PayPal had closed and with no response to my email, I got my refund and April got another really nasty and threatening email from him. He then proceeded to post crap on his FB page about her and get his friends all worked up about this “horrible” customer who is nothing but a fraud queen. She is really upset about it because he is threatening to file a police report, which according to him, PayPal encouraged him to do. I truly believe it would amount to nothing because once the police see his emails and the fact that he did not lose out on anything (he still has the snake and we have our $200 back), he will not have a case. He is just mad that he has a black mark on his PayPal account I guess. He is truly a lunatic as far as I can tell. I hope it just dies out, but I have a feeling he might drag this out just to hurt April. I would appreciate prayers if you think of us.

After I got home from Heidi’s house I submitted an application to a doctoral program to complete a Ph.d in Educational Leadership with a concentration in health education. I spoke to an academic adviser and she indicated that I could start on January 15th if I get my file completed. I filled out my FAFSA yesterday and I have to submit my resume, a sample of my scholarly writing, and some sort of cover letter indicating why I want to complete the program. It is heavily research based, which is a bit intimidating, but I have Dan to help me, so I know I’ll be ok. I still haven’t made good progress on my other classes, but my plan is to come home after tea and try to knock out a couple of assignments. I have a month to complete everything. As long as I don’t work a lot of days between now and then, I should be ok. I just need to get disciplined.

On the eating front, things are going pretty well. Last night Dan and I went to Ruby Tuesdays for dinner. We had the all-you-can-eat salad bar and a dry baked potato. I made two trips to the salad bar and the potato was really good. I think that will be our go-to date night place, although we won’t eat out often. The next time will probably be for my birthday.

Well, I need to get ready to go, so I will end here. I hope you all have a blessed weekend!
