Unexpected Change of Plans

I have a head cold. It started about five days ago with a slight sore throat, and then, as usual, my nose started going crazy. I do not know why my body creates so much mucous, but inevitably, if I wake up any time after 3:00am, my nose immediately starts running and I am up for the rest of the day. I do have to say, though, that I feel fine aside from the runny nose, so I will not complain too much. Colds in the past have been much more miserable. I’m just hoping that I’m completely over it by Thanksgiving. When I was a kid, I remember being sick around the holidays a lot. I have a feeling it was probably because everyone in my family smoked. Now, I think I’m more susceptible to illness because I work in schools. Those kids are always sharing germs. I’d prefer that they keep them to themselves! :-p

So, I have some unexpected news. It looks like we may not be spending the winter in Florida after all. I have had a sneaking suspicion that things might change for a couple of weeks now (hence the reason for my cryptic statement in my last blog post). April has applied for a couple of jobs at CSU in Alabama. She got notification that she is not in the running for one of them, but she’s not heard about the other one yet, the one she is more qualified for. Dan and I started talking about how we would handle her moving if we were in the midst of planning to be gone for three months ourselves, but I was just content to let things play out and worry about it if and when the time came. However, after spending three weeks on the coast last month, it because very clear to both me and Dan that we are done with Nebraska weather. He is now totally on board with selling the house and moving South. In fact, he now talks about it more than I do! Anyway, yesterday he asked me what I wanted to do about Florida, and it just hit me–I would rather stay here and get the house ready to put on the market by February 1st rather than wait for spring. People will be getting income tax returns and since there are not a lot of houses on the market in winter, we might stand a better chance of flipping the house sooner, although our sellers market is really good here regardless. We do not have a lot to do to get the house ready to sell, but I am eager to get back to decluttering and just getting it done. This will give us a solid two and a half months to get everything done and get the house staged. We do need to replace a bit of carpet, but that is the biggest thing we have left to do.

This plan will also allow us to not spend the $500 a month for an RV site plus the gas to get to Lakeland, and I will be able to work a bit during January, February, and March, so I will be making money instead of spending it. And besides that, April was really concerned about what she would do if something happens to Hailey while we are gone. Hailey will be seventeen years old on February 3rd, so we know her days are numbered. That fact was driven home even more last night when April came downstairs to tell me that her 4 1/2 year old hedgehog had passed away. She was getting ready to work the overnight shift at her job and it was really bad timing, but I did what I could to make it easier for her. I am thankful that she has her cat, Mimi. She will make Hailey’s passing much easier for April, too. April has a super-soft heart when it comes to animals.

Well, it’s time to get ready for work now. I teach 6th grade today and I think I teach 2nd tomorrow. Then I am off until the Wednesday after Thanksgiving. I made a doctors appointment for the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. I really need to find out if I truly have Long QT Syndrome or if the ECG in the ER was a fluke. I am hesitant to get my heart rate up too much until I know for sure, which stinks because I’d like to start doing aerobics again. We walk occasionally, but with the weather getting so cold now, Dan and I are both loathed to go out much. It’s only going to get worse, so I need a Plan B.

I hope you all have a great Thursday and weekend!

So you are moving to Alabama or Florida, and are you still keeping your RV? What about your son? Will he be moving with you too?
