My mother in law passed away on February 8th at a little after 11:00pm. I am truly amazed at how quickly things progressed. After I last wrote, the doctor took MIL in for a lung biopsy and her lung filled up with blood. They got a small sample, enough to confirm the diagnosis of cancer, and because she was in such distress, they gave her a day or a few days to live. The family signed a DNR and decided to move her to hospice, but every time Dan would go to visit her, he’d tell me that she certainly did not look like she was ready to die. However, it wasn’t long before she became virtually unresponsive. On Wednesday night, after she’d been at hospice for two days, the family elected to remove the oxygen and within about an hour, she was gone.
Yesterday I took off work and went with Dan and his siblings to make funeral arrangements. It was a long day and I was starting to feel unwell. I had a nagging headache and my nose was runny. I figured the headache was stress (and sleep deprivation) related and the runny nose was allergies, but when I woke up this morning I was running a fever. So I am home from work again today and will be off on Tuesday and Wednesday next week for the funeral. I feel so bad for missing so much work, but all of this is out of my control.
I hope you all have a blessed weekend.
